Urchin Bloom is a marine fertilizer made from purple sea urchins, harvested along the Mendocino coast to restore kelp forests. Over 95% of Northern California’s kelp forests have disappeared, due to an overpopulation of purple sea urchins. Urchin Bloom is a nutrient rich fertilizer made from the viscera of purple sea urchin which is a marine biomass that is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous, and other bioactive ingredients. By choosing Urchin Bloom, each gallon is contributing to the restoration and revival of an underwater kelp forest ecosystem — while at the same time back on land, imparting new life within your garden beds.
Urchin Bloom is still under development. We’re working with a small group of growers to see how it performs across different plants, climates, and growing methods before we bring it to a wider release.
