What We Built: Sites, Slabs, and Sample Boxes
It's been a season of real, tangible progress at Marblis, both in the water and in production. Here's where things stand.
Restoration
Our work with conservation partners at the Big River site in Mendocino continues this season, including dockside monitoring and field tests alongside the ongoing urchin harvest.
Production
- Sample boxes are shipping. The first six sample boxes have gone out to pilot and pre-order customers, each featuring gel-coated samples, a printed catalog, and materials to help clients envision Urchinite in their own spaces. All color variations for sample slabs are now complete.
- A finishing breakthrough. After extensive R&D, we finalized a new gel coat formulation that significantly outperforms our previous version, holding up to boiling water and hot wax.
- Infrastructure is standing up. The Ukiah preprocessing site is fully operational, with water, sewer, trash, and electricity secured. We've also established our Oakland warehouse manufacturing setup, including the equipment needed to run it.
- Scaling capacity. We're expanding processing capabilities to meet demand and continuing to build regional distribution partnerships to bring Urchinite to projects across California and beyond.
Commercial Pilot
Our commercial pilot program is advancing, with emerging partnerships bringing Urchinite into pilot projects and showroom installations.
Team
We onboarded a Mineral Logistics Technician and a Production Technician, and certified key staff on forklifts, expanding capacity to keep up with growing demand.
Business & Operations
We signed a formal agreement with our conservation partners. On the infrastructure side, we ported our website to Shopify, implemented new bin tracking sheets, and finalized packaging design for our new plant food product "Urchin Bloom".

What's Next
We'll continue shipping sample boxes to pre-order and pilot customers over the coming months, alongside ramping up trial production of large slabs for this season's pilot installs.
Thank you for being part of this work with us.
With gratitude,
The Marblis Team
