Thank you for being one of our very first MARBLIS Urchinite™ pre-order supporters. Your belief in our vision from the very beginning means the world to us. We also owe you our sincere apology for the quiet months. Our silence may have felt unsettling and we’re committed to doing better. Beginning this month, we will be sending a monthly newsletter to keep you in the fold. 

A Look Behind the Scenes

Since launch, we’ve been fully immersed in the work of bringing Urchinite to life, and restoring kelp forest ecosystems in the process. We have been conducting extensive testing and development - running mechanical performance studies, characterization analyses, and manufacturing trials. We’re proud to share that Urchinite has shown exceptional strength-to-weight properties, performing at the higher end compared to both natural and engineered stones. To better understand its unique qualities, we’ve even captured Scanning Electron Microscope images at 10 micrometers (smaller than a pollen grain) revealing the intricate crystalline structures of Urchinite biocalcites.

Alongside this scientific work, we’ve continued refining material compositions for scaled production, and continued our collaborations with marine partners, ensuring that the restoration of kelp forest habitats remains a core part of our process. At every stage, three principles guide our work:

• Materials that perform beautifully over time
• Restoration of the kelp forest habitats where Urchinite begins

On the Horizon

In the months ahead, we’ll begin sharing glimpses of this journey, from underwater harvest to final forms. To make it more tangible, you’ll also receive a few tactile surprises in the mail - designed just for you, as one of our founding supporters. 

In early 2026, you’ll receive a private invitation to explore our digital catalog, where you’ll be able to select from a curated series of Urchinite designs, forms, and dimensions. Each will include detailed performance notes to support your design vision. Once your final selections are made, we’ll begin crafting your pieces at the end of Fall 2025, with delivery anticipated by Summer 2026 - on time and on track.

A New Ecology 

We know this timeline asks for patience, and we’re grateful you are walking this path with us. Together, we are not only creating enduring materials, but shaping a new material ecology - one where the creation of new forms, triggers the re-wilding of the sea.
